Thimbleberry Collaborative Farm is a nonprofit educational farm in East Multnomah County. NWRP is supporting the vision for a new outdoor classroom where students and community members can learn together.
About Thimbleberry
Growing Food, Learning, and Connection
Thimbleberry Collaborative Farm provides nutritious produce, education programs, and community-building events. Its work connects food access with hands-on learning and regenerative growing practices.
Food access
Thimbleberry donates about half of its produce to food banks including SnowCap and Birch Community Services. The other half becomes meals for low-income patients through Milk Crate Kitchen.
K–12 education
Field trips and classroom visits help students learn about seasonal produce, environmental science, cooking, and food-systems issues.
Community events
Workshops, volunteer days, and community farm days create welcoming ways for people to learn, contribute, and build relationships.
Regenerative agriculture
Low- and no-till methods, drip irrigation, compost, cover crops, crop rotation, and other practices support soil health, water conservation, and carbon storage.

The Design Charrette
Many Ideas, One Shared Classroom
A design charrette is a focused, collaborative session during schematic design (SD). At this phase, we are laying out where things might go, exploring the general overall look, and deciding which path to pursue before moving forward.
Designing through conversation
NWRP’s Thimbleberry charrette brought participants together to imagine how an outdoor classroom could support field trips, youth learning, and community use. The composite shows the range of concepts developed during the session. This is SD-phase work: exploratory thinking about layout, placement, and overall character—not a final plan, permit document, or approved construction set.
The working participant submissions remain project records. This page shares the combined charrette image and the broader project story rather than publishing individual files without separate approval.

Project purpose
Outdoor K–12 learning classroom
The classroom project is currently on hold while Thimbleberry works on improving its driveway to accommodate buses and ADA access needs. Once that campaign is clear, Thimbleberry and NWRP can resume classroom fundraising and design. In the meantime, NWRP remains a supporter of Thimbleberry in every way we can, including attending its events whenever possible.
